Everyday Hero(es) Of The Week: Donnie Lawson and Stewart Franklin of Rogersville, TN

Since 2006 only about 20% of the cases of Amber Alerts are the missing children found. So when Carlie Marie Trent, a 9 year old who disappeared after being picked up from school by a relative, was reported missing, the outlook was grim. It became even more bleak when it was discovered that her relative had recently purchased cosmetics and children’s clothing, prompting the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) to initiate a statewide manhunt.

But, in a stroke of both good luck and extreme heroism, Carlie has been returned home unharmed. Donnie Lawson and Stewart Franklin, a Baptist preacher, followed up on surveillance video showing Gary’s car heading to a remote area of Hawkins County in Eastern Tennessee. Lawson and Franklin entered a wooded area where they found Simpson and Carlie. Franklin held Simpson at gunpoint while Lawson called the police who later arrived on the scene and took Simpson into custody.

Mark Gwyn, Director of the TBI, said in a statement: “This is a case of two heroes who went on their property to see if, by chance, if they were there, and they were.I think this is a clear message to the public that we need your help on these kind of cases.”
